Biography

Douglas made his professional debut in 1971, as a Comedian and Impressionist at The Hoe Theatre. Plymouth with Cardew Robinson. Subsequent Summer Seasons and cabarets saw him appearing alongside Roy Castle, Jimmy Cricket, Alvin Stardust, The Wurzels and Long John Baldry.

Douglas and Vicki MichelleTheatre appearances include the role of Harold Thropp in the one-man play TWINKLE LITTLE STAR (Cheltenham Everyman and tour), Bromley in DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE (Charles Vance Rep. Company),  Araminta Dench in THE FARMER’S WIFE (Creative Cow), Agatha Christie thrillers TOWARDS ZERO, VERDICT, SPIDER'S WEB, THE HOLLOW, BLACK COFFEE and THE UNEXPECTED GUEST, the Ray Cooney comedies NOT NOW DARLING, MOVE OVER MRS MARKHAM and RUN FOR YOUR WIFE and a Summer Season co-starring with Vicki Michelle in the British musical BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

West End appearances include compering SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE at Her Majesty's Theatre and THE SLIMMER OF THE YEAR AWARDS at The Cafe Royal.

Douglas especially enjoys the Christmas period as he gets to don his frocks as one of Britain's leading Dames. His pantomime work includes twenty-six seasons at most major theatres all over the UK, having appeared in ALADDIN, CINDERELLA, MOTHER GOOSE, JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, ROBINSON CRUSOE, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, SLEEPING BEAUTY, ROBIN HOOD AND THE BABES IN THE WOOD and DICK WHITTINGTON with many of Britain's top stars including Roy Hudd. Rolf Harris. John Nettles. Paul Shane. Bonnie Langford, Bernie Clifton, Colin Baker, Denise Welch and Ruth Madoc.

On television his credits include Barry in JAM AND JERUSALEM (BBC), Bailiff in LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD (BBC), seven Rosamunde Pitcher dramas for German Television including the roles of John Ripley in LOVE AGAINST THE REST OF THE WORLD (FFP New Media), Douglas and Bernie CliftonEdgar Penfold in ARROWS OF LOVE (FFP New Media) and Bishop Jones in STORMY SEAS (FFP New Media), THE ONE SHOW (BBC), BREAKFAST TIME (BBC), CHILDREN IN NEED (BBC), JOHN NETTLES APPLAUDS (ITV), THE SEARCH (BBC) and STREAKERS-THEY'RE AT IT AGAIN (SMG Productions) (in which he kept his clothes on'). He has been featured in many commercials and short films and in the cinema in the Ray Winstone movie THAT SUMMER (COLUMBIA PICTURES).

Radio has always played a large part in his career, with over twenty-five years spent in BBC Local Radio, and with appearances on many national programmes ranging from WOMAN'S HOUR (Radio 4) to FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT (Radio 2) and STAGE FIVE with Anthea Turner and Darren Day (Radio 5)  In 2006 he produced the Radio 4 documentary UNDER THE SKIN about performers who appear as animals in pantomime. Appearances in two radio comedy series opposite Reg Varney led to him appearing as supporting artiste in a series of live concerts

Other activities have included working as a Disc Jockey on cruise liners, warming-up the studio audiences for a BBC 1 television quiz series, hosting the BBC travelling exhibition RADIO GOES TO TOWN, a guest appearance with Chisinau National Opera in Ellen Kent's production of DIE FLEDERMAUSS compering the spectacular MUSIC OF THE NIGHT at the Royal Citadel in Plymouth and the National Final of the British Resorts Association SEARCH FOR A STAR.
